Damn 2011 is like the return of awesome ideas from UFA.

Close enough.
Meh, the track list is...okay. But Yossie and Rika were there for most of the songs. :c
I was hoping for Ass n' Titties Dream Ver.
Pi Kago; Most of the lineup has moved on to non-Momusu things. Iida released four solo albums, Rika and Yossie have done a SHITLOAD of stuff, and Yuko and Nacchi both have solo careers (the former hasn't released anything in a while though).
There seems to be an H!P revival as of late. OGs, Buono!, Ayaya, Nacchi...come on baby, let's get some Maeda Yuki next! <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /weeeh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

lol cannot even imagine this lineup doing Mikan. Looking forward to seeing how the lines on that get distributed. Could also deal without Souda! We're Alive but I guess it's a classic.

Well at least I don't have to worry about Koharu since Yuko's going to fucking kill her in a week or two.
I'm really torn on this. On one hand, I love the old school and would love seeing nothing more than the OGs becoming huge and bitchslapping AKB and their ilk back into the gutters, but on the other, I feel terrible for the current group. The current MM girls have worked far longer and a hell of a lot harder than the original members, for only a fraction of their popularity, and now I see this totally overshadowing them if it turns out to be more than a one-off thing.

I'm just thinking of this simply as something nice for the old fans who can't follow the current Morning Musume and another reason for them to say that "Morning Musume has been around for so long and legendary that we can do this". I don't think it's going to overshadow current Morning Musume. I'm just hoping that Tsuji is on the album, they don't disband until Morning Musume's 50th single or 15th annniversary, and have both do a joint concert with JunJun and LinLin and guests. I can dream can't I?

02 Daite HOLD ON ME!
Yes.
02 Morning Coffee (2011 Ver)
06 Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou?
04 LOVE Machine
I'm so thrilled with this group. They should all honestly just reform, because none of them are really doing much to speak of at the moment (except for Mari). All I ask for is a three year reformation and I'll have my fill.
I know people are going to come back with the "Well they aren't doing anything us overseas fans can really support" but all of them are doing tons. Well, all minus a couple, mainly Kaori and actually yeah I think mainly Kaori. Besides her blog she doesn't do too much else. But the rest are always doing stage activities, including internationally known plays (Nacchi, Kei, Yuko) or regulars on TV shows (Mari, Makoto, Miki, Koharu, Yossi) as well as the Fanclub and other small support events. Maybe these aren't CD releases or anime con appearances but they are a career and I am sure these ladies would be offended to think that people see their careers as being dead.
Just to let everyone know before you get your hopes completely up, this is a one year thing. At least, that is how it has been planned from the beginning. One year special unit, with two tours. The CD release was the only surprise in the plan so far. I am looking forward to their concert, it will be interesting to see this lineup perform all of those songs. And although overdone, Morning Coffee and Love Machine will never be unwanted. The first gen was amazing when they performed Coffee at their event.

I agree on the first sentence. But isn't the group reforming the gimmick itself and not just the name?
Yeah, it is. But whatever, if they're going to do it, they might as well make the most of it. Do we really need another version of "Morning Coffee" or RR21"? I guess I should just be thankful that "Furusato" was left out.

And I quote from H!O:
Fujimoto Miki quipped, "All I've been doing lately is laundry, so it's been too long since I've sang and danced."
(I know that Miki has been a spokesperson/model for like a million things since she graduated, but come on... laundry? lol)

Takahashi only rules because of the absence of the classic girls, so it wouldn't happen.
I love how they put the A-Song with really long title next to other A-Song with really long title.
So, even the company is admitting that no one loves Manatsu no Kousen? <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />
It's a group song, unlike Furusato which I understand leaving off since it's just Nacchi.
If there's a 2nd album, Yuko, Miki & Mari version of Onna ni Sachi Are, please.
Also, can this be like MELONS NOT DEAD and they track down the person responsible for their best stuff, basically, can DANCE <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... >/star.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> MAN arrange one of the new songs?

So if the album goes top 20 and the tours are a sell out UFA will stop there? I can't see UFA cancelling something that is making a healthy profit especially with the other money making opportunities that should arise. There must be a lot to be made on merchandising plus it will raise the girls profiles again for TV appearences, dinner shows, theatre work etc.

Like everything in UFA, they'll repackage it later with a new name.

Re: Dream Morning Musume Album out 4/20
And now I am disappointed for the very first time that Maki went to avex.
While I love the idea of this, I just can't get really excited about the album itself until I know that it won't be all the same arrangements/instrumentals other than the 5 songs specifically mentioned to be different/new. Maki & MKB's cover of Mirai no Tobira still remains the sole example of an in-house H!P cover done right. Hopefully the overall project'll be successful enough to warrant a follow-up of all-new songs.

No, I WISH is a gimme but I am happy to lose Koi no Dance Site and Happy Summer Wedding.
Tsuyoki de Ikouze CANNOT be performed without Konkon's "Sank you" at the end (probably her finest MM moment).
I would have Do it! Now and Never Forget in there.

Yes, that is a possibility, but I am just saying it is planned to be a one year thing like the 10th Anniversary group. And tours always sell out, I have yet to see an empty seat in a Musume concert in any venue. Merchandising is the same, there are always goods. While I am loving the idea of this and can't wait til my ticket comes I don't want this to be permanent. The girls have their own lives and I enjoy watching the personal paths they choose.

I agree that the girls have their own lives but they still have showbiz lives so I would see this as more than an extension of that although God knows how Yaguchi can fit anything more into her life <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.
Maybe, if it is a success, it will be a fluid line-up with girls coming in and out according to other commitments etc. Presumably Mikitty could become pregnant and Kaorin may also, as I surmised before maybe Eri and Ai will join and Konkon might do something, perhaps as part of her TV work.
I hope, for purely selfish reasons, that they last a very long time <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... umbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

Re: Dream Morning Musume Album out 4/20
^ What would be the point of graduating Morning Musume if they were just going to essentially immediately throw you into a Morning Musume cover group? I really doubt that's what they have in mind for this sort of thing, and more importantly, I really doubt this is going to be that much of a huge raving success.
The decline of MM's popularity isn't based solely on the fact that these girls graduated. It's not like they've all been outselling MM as solo artists, or that Elder Club concerts used to have wide mainstream popularity while MM ones had all the wota.
I guess I'm one of the few people that isn't excited about this. None of these girls were ever my favorites while they were in MM (not to say that I disliked them - except Koharu), and I don't really see a point to them covering songs most of them were already in. The covers of newer songs I guess could be interesting, but some of them seem like they'll be really awkward. Overall, this whole thing feels really gimmicky. I'd be much more excited to see these girls releasing something brand new.

Presumably somebody at UFA has worked out there is money to be made this is what the faithful fans want. The interesting thing to me is that they've gone for a 40 date tour which is MM territory and shows UFA think it will be very popular.
I guess the aim is to attract back some of the fans who were there when they were selling shit loads of records but gradually drifted away as their favourites graduated.
I don't know what it's like in Japan but in the UK there is an incredible appetite for 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s groups to reform and tour. They may generally not worry the charts but they are pulling in a lot of fans who are now in their 30s-50s and have disposable income to spend and don't give a fuck about current musical trends.

Keep in mind 40 shows doesn't mean 40 dates. Actually that means with 2 (3 has been done but not often) shows a day on weekends that is 4 shows a weekend, so 10 weekends. And that would be too long, so most likely will involve weekday shows (such as the holidays over silver week in September).
I don't think it will make much difference outside the fandom, but I don't want or need Musume to be mainstream to like them. Idol groups aren't really meant to be million sellers, they are meant to be just what they are, groups with loyal fans that would almost give their lives to protect their girls. I am looking forward to it purely as a a fan.

That's true in North America, too. Bon Jovi was the highest grossing concert tour in 2010. You know who was 2nd? Roger fucking Waters and his Pink-Floyd-flogging-the-dead-horse-into-The-Wall tour. The fucking Eagles were top 5, and AC/DC always sells out, too. None of these groups have been chart-relevant in damn near 20 years. Of course, none of them have had a continuously changing group of younger members performing under the same name, either, so it's not really an apples-to-apples comparison.

Although at least with DMM you will be seeing the original members unlike many of the old groups who have several members who were never in the original line ups, e.g. The Who (who are somewhat hampered by half the original members being dead).

the same point as always,
"to make room for the under-aged girls" <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I won't get my hopes up for long term plans, I see it more like the 10th anniversary group, a nostalgia project with a bit more effort than a random one single group. They're probably taking it slowly because futures are so unpredictable when you aren't a "fulltime" idol and you actually might have time to start thinking about real world issues. I'm just glad that it brings M-line to life beyond the fanclub, even if temporarily.
Also, H!P(&related groups) frequently used covers to launch things, think of W's 1st album, Nacchi's 1st album, or the revival groups doing a cover album. It's an easy way to give them a lot of material. If fan voted setlists or albums have proven anything, it's that the fans are fine with the typical done to death songs. If they wanted the dream to continue, I think they'd get original songs eventually. Since the album specifically has 2 new songs, I believe a tiny bit that they want to do more with this group. I guess it could also be from a scrapped 1st single & B-side plan.

If any of these recent cover albums are any indication, we'll eventually see a ten-member rendition of Love Namida Iro.
