Hey strawberryjam, can I request some emoticon additions?

Uh... so some of them started yelling at me for hotlinking to blog.mm-bbs.org, while others were okay... So the ones that had problems, I'm just putting the url

Emoticons done.

Thanks for the help TnB, but oh well... Yeah, I don't think I feel like doing the suggested solution. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... hahaha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hahaha:' />

While I am happy that Wordpress is heavily developed, I hate having to update so much. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> The last 2 updates were less than a week between each other. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /noway.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':noway:' />

I know! Just "borrow" their translations. Then someone will surely tell them we stole them and they'll have to come to the board or at least send a message to complain!

I kid, but that probably WOULD get a response from them.

I should have mentioned that in an unprecedented event I was able to keep up prepping Sayu's blog this weekend. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... nceman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':danceman:' /> Over to you TnB.
Probably not doable with who we have now, but it would likely bring in a lot of interest and/or exposure.

Translating a tv show is much harder due to all the homonyms in Japanese, slang puns, and whatnot. I might be willing to give it a shot depending on the show but someone else would have to set it up because video trans are completely a foreign territory for me.
I think it is doable as long as people are willing to stick to the workflow. Basically:

1. Pick a TV show.

2. Grab the raw TV rip, send it over to the translators.

3a. The more experienced translator (preferably one with real-life Japanese conversation experience) translates the dialogues.

3b. The less experienced translator translates the on-screen captions. (optional step, and obviously both can be done by the same person)

4. The TV rip and the translated scripts are sent over to the timer and typesetter.

5. The timer does the timing and sends the timed script to the typesetter.

6. The typesetter styles how the subs look like (mostly needed for the captions). Timer and typesetter are often one person.

7. The finished script is sent over to the encoder who encodes the subs into the video (optional, if we're doing a hardsub) and then uploads it wherever.

Could be simplified even more (there's many decent one-man fansub groups really), but with a regular show at least 3 dedicated people is minimum for comfortable work.
HPT is probably the easiest thing they've done for translating short of the image videos with 2 minutes of talking. The hardest thing would be the timing and sticking in the subtitles themselves. I'm familiar with the basic process, but have never attempted anything like it.
I can do that, as long as that's the only thing I gotta do. I get the translated script, a link to the video file, and a deadline a few days away. Then I do the timing, hand it over to the next person, and stop thinking or caring what happens next. Our last attempt didn't work out because I took too much upon myself.

As for translating H!P stuff.. we never finished Bijo gakou thingy. <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But I do think the most important thing right now is getting more translators.

Yup, it weighs heavy on my conscience. I'm gonna try to finish it sometime this week, could be a good start and translator magnet.
I found one on tumblr, but I don't know how to contact them. Does anyone know how tumblr works?
The same person translates Ai's Nau and the contact option seems to be enabled there. Care to give it a try?

I'm at the beach this week and it looks like I won't be able to do translations :( I was thinking the wifi hotspot we brought would work well, but it runs off of Sprint's 3g network which doesn't get much signal here, so the speeds are abysmal. It would take me so long just to log in and get one entry to post that it's not worth it =/

Could rob or anyone else pick up Sayu through Friday? I'll be back on Saturday. Sorry for the last minute notice. :(

That's all right TnB, things happen.

I need someone to declare themselves to take over though so I can reassign the posts. There's 28 drafts queued up right now, I guess some of them can be skipped if they're nothing significant.

Anyway, they're all yours now. Maybe just skim through them and do the most significant ones first and the rest later if at all. Thanks!

So Nakky now has her own Ameba blog too it seems <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

http://ameblo.jp/nakajima-saki-official/

I'm not completely sure why, since she seems to struggle to find stuff to fill the Gree blogs with <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But...

Well, eri, if you don't want to translate it I'll do it from time to time at least (along with C-ute's Gree). I'm already doing the intro post cause there seems to be some google translate misunderstanding with it XD

^I think I'm cutting Nakky down to lowest priority because she already has the Cute Gree blog and....she really doesn't say anything too interesting hahaha.

Right now I am still doing 99% of her private Gree blog just because she hasn't been posting much. But, maybe she's going to stop the Gree now that she has Ameba.

Nakky is all yours if you want her now, Gree and all <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... #>/meh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';/' />

^ All right. Like I said, I'm not sure if I'll do all of her Ameba entries. Maybe the ones that are interesting <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Or if I'm bored...

And I still won't do her Gree solo one (if that continues). Ameba's easier for me since I can get emails about updates.

Also, I know I mentioned before about maybe picking up something since Berryz' Serend ended, but unfortunately with the timing, I've also become busier in my personal life, so haven't been able to do more than maybe a Reina post a day if I can. Looking at the stats lately, it does seem that people just check the front page of the site and then only click on the most recent post which shows up there, so the one-a-day interesting post thing actually seems a decent strategy for now.

I saw someone asked about Maimi's blog too, which I feel bad about, but really, her entries are time-consuming, and I also feel kinda silly doing it when an independent translator (maimilog) does good, very timely translations already. I wouldn't even feel bad linking to him somehow too since he does link to b!p on his site's front page. It's too bad he won't just post his translations here... but I know people can grow attached to their own sites and the work they've put into them.

Yeah, MaimiLog is amazing! We are already linked to it. MaimiLog does way more than just translations and it is more of a fan site - I guess it makes sense that it'd be too difficult for him to cross post in 2 places.

But...the whole reason why I really like blog!project is because, it is a huge pain in the ass to keep tags on these dozens of translation sites. It is so much easier for me to read everyone's at once and from a fan perspective, it makes so much more sense to collaborate. It is disappointing.

I also wonder if people feel competitive or territorial about their translations? It is really silly imo, but I've seen it with video translation groups.

That's true, it's over in the links page, huh? Not sure I ever looked there before <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> There seem to be a lot of outdated links there now though...

I also do agree it's easier having em in one central place like here - that's why I decided to come over here to begin with too. I wonder if anyone's asked B.G. from over there if we could repost the translations here? Although I'd be kinda surprised if he'd go for the idea...

Yeah, people should go for it since it's an asset for the community. I only see it as an issue of "taking page views away." It's not like anyone is making money off of it, and it would let more people see their work. Plus having a single place collecting them all would be convenient for all involved.

What's BG?

Maybe there is a real lack of Japanese translators? Because, it isn't like anyone has issues with projecthello and all of the info is free to use in people's music videos or whatever. I thought the same would apply for the blog site.

But, well, then again....

I asked 1 person on H-O but he didn't seem up for it (partly due to some grudge against the bbs <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />).

I wonder how places like Tokyo Hive get organized. It doesn't seem like they started out as some "professional" media network or anything -- just like, arama fans who got a really nice website <img src='http://mm-bbs.org/public/style_emoticon ... /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But since the offer advertising space, it seems they have money to hire full time staff.

Maybe there's a way to syndicate the blog posts? (is that the right term?) Then when they update, the blog!project page will show the update, but when someone clicks on it, it'll go to the post on the other person's blog rather than a post on blog!project. You'd probably need to get permission, but it might be easier than trying to get people to sign up for the bbs.

I think we all agree, and no matter how many times someone says it, someone has to actually DO IT.

Whether that means being allowed to copy and paste translations and linking the original website all over the place OR the maimi section just linking to maimilog

I think it's good for both websites and great for the H!P community on the whole to have all of us fans working together.

but still someone has to actually make it happen as talking about it won't get anything much done.

Wouldn't that only work for crossposting from one wordpress blog to another? I can't really tell from the description and I don't have a wordpress blog, so I can't tell. Otherwise, this is pretty much what I was thinking of, and if it could work, that could be a good way to have blog!project display other translation blogs on the site.

Looking through the plugin directory, there's also this:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rss-digest/

Though this one doesn't do it by blog post, just in a large group of links.

There's also this one:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rss-poster/

which does do it by post. This along the lines of what I was thinking of, except it reproduces the post on the blog it's installed on.

(and this one, but the description is lacking and I can't tell what the posts would look like when they're posted.)
